CD4 and CD8 reference counts in normal healthy south-Indian adults.

چکیده
As we know, the CD4 cell count is the best indicator of the immediate state of immunologic competence of the patient with HIV infection and these are one of the most widely used surrogate markers for monitoring disease progression and initiating therapy for HIV infected individuals. Because of drastic cut down in the prices of antiretroviral drugs, the antiretroviral therapy has become more affordable in India. Therefore, it is important to know the baseline CD4 count in normal healthy individuals of that locality, as CD4 counts differ from one locality to other and among different ethnic groups. Estimation of CD4 and CD8 cells continues to be an important marker for the monitoring of HIV infected patients especially in developing countries.[1]

Reference Values of Lymphocyte Sub-Populations in Healthy Human Immunodeficiency Virus-Negative Iranian Adults
Background: Lymphocyte subsets enumeration is considered prominent in the management of primary and acquired immunodeficiency disorders. Because of local variations due to race, age, gender, and environmental conditions on lymphocyte subsets, and to improve the accuracy of interpretation of laboratory findings, reference intervals must be determined in every population. Objective: To establish ...
متن کاملCD4 counts of normal and HIV-infected south Indian adults: do we need a new staging system?
BACKGROUND The normal range of CD4 lymphocyte count varies among different ethnic groups. In populations with CD4 counts inherently lower than in the West, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) classification system of HIV-infected individuals may not be appropriate. No such criterion is currently available for ethnic south Indian HIV-infected individuals. We undertook this study...
متن کاملEstablishment of T-lymphocyte subset reference intervals in a healthy adult population in Chennai, India.
Estimation of CD4+ T-lymphocytes continues to be an important aspect for monitoring HIV disease progression and response to antiretroviral therapy. Most of the diagnostic laboratories often rely on western text books for CD4+ T-lymphocyte reference values, which could, often be unreliable for usage in local settings. Therefore, we attempted to establish the reference values for T-lymphocyte sub...
متن کاملReference ranges for lymphocyte subsets in adults from western India: influence of sex, age and method of enumeration.
BACKGROUND The enumeration of absolute CD4 counts is of primary importance, since therapeutic protocols for HIV1 patients are based on these. AIMS To establish reference ranges for the CD4 and CD8 T-lymphocytes in the Indian population. SETTINGS AND DESIGN Enumeration of absolute numbers and percentages of lymphocyte subsets was performed in 252 healthy adult Indians. METHODS AND MATERIAL...
متن کاملImmunohematological reference ranges for adults from the Central African Republic.
A survey was carried out on 150 healthy adults to establish hematological reference ranges for human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-negative adults from the Central African Republic (CAR). Immunohematological mean values, medians, and 95th-percentile reference ranges were established. Mean values were as follows: leukocyte (WBC) counts, 5.28 x 10(9)/liter (males) and 5.11 x 10(9)/liter (females);...
